The company has experienced some weakness, with the share falling from its high of $119. One of the main concerns behind this is about its gaming revenue. It will look to bounce back with the latest AI technology.

NVIDIA’s Future

The potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enormous. Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) has announced efforts to put AI intro products that are beyond self-driving cars. With the potential for AI to be embedded in robots, drones and more.

The company is updating an embedded system called the Jetson TX2 that looks to put advanced computing power in a host of devices. NVDA has found success with their AI-enabled systems for cars and servers, raising their stock to new heights. The new and enhanced Jetson device allows developers to embed AI directly into devices, making it more efficient for gadgets to access the greater computing power.

Vice President, Deepu Talla said “the deep learning is able to crunch all this data much, much faster.”

Consumers are getting comfortable knowing that the data from any gadgets they use goes up to the cloud. However, moving forward, most of this data will stick closer to Earth, processed in hardware that lives at the so-called edge – for example, inside security cameras or drones. NVDA is now focused on the edge.

Deepu Talla says in bringing AI technology to the edge, it will make for a new class of intelligent machines. “These devices will enable intelligent video analytics that keep our cities smarter and safer, new kinds of robots that optimize manufacturing, and new collaboration that makes long-distance work more efficient,” he said.

Why The Edge?

There are four main reasons why NVDA chose the edge. These being: bandwidth, latency, privacy and availability. Bandwidth is becoming an issue for cloud processing, mainly for video, as cameras in video applications are moving to 4K resolution.

“By 2020, there will be 1 billion cameras in the world doing public safety and streaming data,” he said. “There’s not enough upstream bandwidth available to send all this to the cloud.” Therefore, processing at the edge will be an absolute necessity.

Latency becomes an issue with robotics and self-driving cars, where decisions have to be made at lightning speed. Privacy, is easier to manage and protect when data isn’t moving around. And availability of the cloud, is an issue throughout the world where communication is limited.

According to Talla, “we will see AI transferring to the edge,” with future application using both edge and cloud processing.

Partners Using NVIDIA’s Latest Tech

There are numerous partners who are using the latest technology from NVDA in their devices. Search and rescue drones, home health-care robots and more devices are all equipped with the system. They demonstrated them at an exhibition last week. Cisco Systems Inc. showed its capability of their hardware collaboration, thanks to NVDA’s Jetson architecture.

A startup from California, Fellow Robotics, showed an updated version of a robot made for Lowe’s hardware stores that can take inventory and make orders automatically, as well as assist customers. The company also refreshed their software development kit, which assists developers take full advantage of their Jetpack 3.0 technology. Talla claims the updated embedded system doubles the performance from its previous version. The updated software doubles its performance, making the new system as much as four times as powerful.

The developer kit for the new Jetson TX2 will cost $599, education pricing $299; and the price of the previous model, Jetson TX1, reduced to $499.

There are many companies that will benefit from the newest technology of the Jetson TX2. Many of these companies want to distinguish themselves from their competitors. For example, Teal Drones incorporated AI into his drones so that it can understand and react to what its cameras are seeing.
