Artificial Intelligence: The Basics

As someone interested in both technological innovation and the financial markets, I find myself bombarded with news regarding developments in artificial intelligence. Simply put, artificial intelligence is everywhere. From virtual personal assistants to online customer support, artificial intelligence is already having a profound impact on society. Artificial intelligence will change the course of history undeniable. That is the reason tech giants such as Amazon, Apple, and Facebook have spent billions trying to better understand and utilize the technology. Although we have seen a recent acceleration of innovation in the field of artificial intelligence, the term AI was coined in 1955. Back then, the term referred to machines that could perform tasks that required intelligence when performed by humans. Although the theory behind artificial intelligence was wildly understood in 1955, execution was feeble. However, execution has improved greatly as the result of technological advancements. Now, it refers to machines that simulate human cognitive processes. Meaning that artificial intelligence could mimic the human in the way that we think and process. Presently, artificial intelligence is capable of learning, reasoning, judging, predicting, inferring, and initiating action.

Israel Leading the Way

Israel is at the forefront of developments made in artificial intelligence. Both start-ups and multinational corporations alike have made important breakthroughs in the realm of artificial intelligence in Israel. Here at I Know First, we provide our valued clientele with state of the art self-learning AI based algorithmic forecasting solutions for the capital markets. By using artificial intelligence, we have been successful in uncovering the best investment opportunities. In addition to artificial intelligence and machine learning, our algorithm incorporates elements of artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms. The algorithm generates daily predictions for stocks, commodities, ETF’s, interest rates, currencies, and world indices for the short, medium and long term time horizons. The algorithm is currently tracking and predicting a growing universe of over 3,000 financial assets. We cater to retail investors in addition to large financial institutions, banks, and hedge funds. In addition to I Know First; OrCam, Neura, and Aidoc are three other Israeli startups that have been successful in incorporating elements of artificial intelligence.

OrCam Technologies: AI Changing Lives

OrCam Technologies have worked tirelessly to develop a wearable assistive technology device. Their mission is to improve the lives of individuals who are blind, visually impaired, have a reading disability, or people with other conditions. Orcam is able to do this by harnessing the power of artificial vision. In addition, their technology incorporates elements of computer vision and machine learning. Orcam developed the OrCam MyEye, a tiny device that you clip to your glasses. MyEye provides a visual aid through a discreet, wearable platform, and easy-to-use interface. The OrCam MyEye device was launched in the United States in 2015 and costs $3,500. Currently, OrCam is working on the next generation of the device. It will be much smaller and will feel just like wearing a normal pair of glasses. OrCam was co-founded by Professor Amnon Shashua and Ziv Aviram. Prior to Orcam, Shashua and Aviram co-founded Mobileye, the accident avoidance system. In March of 2017, Intel purchased Mobileye for $15.3 billion. So far, OrCam has raised $56 million according to crunchbase.

Neura: AI Boosting Engagement

Neura is able to boost engagement for both mobile applications and Internet of things devices by adapting to each user, engaging at perfect moments, and anticipating user need. By knowing the user’s activities and understanding real-world contexts, Neura is able to approach the user when he or she is most likely to respond. All of this, is made by possible by the use of artificial intelligence. Neura has helped dozens of businesses across the globe. According to the Wall Street Journal, Neura has been successful in raising $11 million in Series A funding.

Aidoc: AI Helping Radiologists

Aidoc is working towards revolutionizing the field of medical imaging analysis. Built by a team of deep learning experts and practicing radiologists, Aidoc has the potential to streamline the workload of radiologists across the world. By incorporating elements of artificial intelligence and reworking deep learning algorithms, Aidoc guides radiologists to the most relevant places in the scan. In addition, Aidoc consolidates multiple sources of data to one screen. The end goal being to take the number of diagnostic errors to zero.

israeli startups

Israel has been dubbed the “startup nation” and for good reason. A country similar to New Jersey in regards to both size and population has more companies listed on the NASDAQ than any other country in the world with the two exceptions of the United States and China. Plus, Israel is home to more startups per capita than any other country in the world. In particular, Israel has been a key player in the fields of cyber security and biotechnology. In the future, expect for Israel to play an important role in the development of artificial intelligence.
