Overview
Broadcom Inc., founded in 1961 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, is a global leader in semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions. The company operates through two segments: Semiconductor Solutions and Infrastructure Software. Its products include Ethernet switches, RF modules, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth SoCs, storage controllers, and optical components used in data centers, smartphones, broadband, and industrial systems. Broadcom serves a wide range of markets including AI networking, telecommunications, and factory automation. Its core strength lies in delivering high-performance, custom silicon and software for complex, mission-critical applications.
AVGO Overall Financial Trends for the Past 5 years
Broadcom’s top line has more than doubled over the past five years, rising from $23.9 billion in fiscal year 2020 to $51.6 billion in 2024, and reaching $57.0 billion in the latest twelve months (LTM) as of May 2025. This growth wasn’t just about selling more chips—it was the result of two major structural changes. First, Broadcom completed its $69 billion acquisition of VMware in November 2023, which added approximately $18 billion in annual Infrastructure Software revenue, significantly shifting the company’s business mix toward software. Second, Broadcom capitalized on the exploding demand for AI-related networking infrastructure, with its custom switch silicon playing a key role in powering next-generation data centers. These high-performance chips—especially in Ethernet switching—have become essential to large-scale AI training systems, driving a surge in semiconductor sales.

Gross margin improved from 73% in 2020 to 77% in the most recent LTM period, as the company leaned more into high-margin software and customized silicon products. However, operating margin didn’t follow a straight upward path. It peaked at 46% in 2023, then dropped to 30% in 2024 due to the accounting impact of the VMware deal—specifically, $9.3 billion in intangible amortization and other one-time integration expenses. That said, margins are already rebounding, hitting 38% in the latest figures, signaling that VMware synergies are starting to show up in the bottom line and that these cost hits were temporary rather than structural.

Net income moved in a similar arc. Broadcom posted a record $14.1 billion in earnings for FY 2023, only to see that fall to $5.9 billion in FY 2024 under the weight of acquisition-related charges and higher interest costs. But as those impacts began to fade, net income recovered to $12.9 billion in the LTM. Basic EPS also reflected this swing, moving from $3.39 to a low of $1.27, and now rising again to $2.76. Interestingly, despite the earnings drop in FY 2024, Broadcom raised its dividend by 18% to $2.17 per share. This aggressive payout pushed the dividend-to-earnings ratio above 160%, though management has indicated this was a temporary spike and expects to return to more sustainable payout levels as integration costs subside.

On the financing side, Broadcom took on about $32 billion in new debt to fund the VMware transaction, which drove annual interest expenses up to $3.95 billion. Even so, the company’s balance sheet remains solid. With $31.1 billion in EBITDA over the last twelve months, Broadcom’s net debt to EBITDA ratio stays under 2x—well within a healthy range for a company of its size and cash flow. Investors seem to agree: the stock continues to command a strong valuation, trading around 43 times LTM EBITDA and 30 times forward EBITDA. That premium is largely justified by the company’s growing $5 billion-plus quarterly revenue run rate from AI-related sales, which Wall Street sees as both durable and expanding.

AVGO Segment Performance by Regions

Over the past five fiscal years Broadcom’s revenue map has shifted in clear ways. U.S. sales were the smallest slice in 2019 at just $4.2 billion, but they rose every year and then jumped to $12.9 billion in 2024—about a quarter of company revenue—after VMware’s mostly U.S.-based software contracts landed on Broadcom’s books. China, long Broadcom’s largest single market, climbed from $8.1 billion to a peak of $11.6 billion in 2022 but slipped to $10.5 billion in 2024 as smartphone demand softened and export rules tightened; its share fell from more than a third of company sales to barely one-fifth. Singapore tells the opposite story: revenue there was negligible in 2020, yet by 2024 it reached $9.6 billion, reflecting both a growing Asia-Pacific software customer base and heavier chip-assembly work routed through the island’s factories. The catch-all “other foreign” group—which covers Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the rest of the world—added about $11 billion over five years to hit $18.6 billion, paced by Ethernet switch wins at cloud data-centres and steady demand for industrial opto-electronics. Asset-turnover metrics back up the quality of that growth: in the U.S. each dollar of assets now supports $7.60 of sales versus $2.40 five years ago, while “other foreign” markets improved from roughly 14× to nearly 40×, a sign that the new software mix is far less capital-hungry than pure hardware.
AVGO Recent and Future Business Strategies
Broadcom is steering its business on two parallel tracks. First, it keeps pouring R&D dollars into niche, high-value chip franchises—RF front ends with FBAR filters, 100-terabit Ethernet switch ASICs for AI clusters, optical transceivers for data-centre backbones—where it already owns a deep patent library and can price for performance rather than volume. Second, the company is deliberately buying mature, cash-rich software vendors that run on high margins and subscription revenue. VMware is the headline example: at 85 percent gross margin and with a footprint across private-cloud, zero-trust security, and the software-defined edge, it instantly pushed software to roughly 40 percent of Broadcom’s top line and gave management plenty of costs to cut for rapid free-cash-flow lift. Earlier picks—CA mainframe tools in 2018 and Symantec’s enterprise security unit in 2019—follow the same script: slower growth but sticky customers and lots of room to simplify back-office functions. Under the hood Broadcom keeps a light balance-sheet profile by outsourcing most wafer fabrication and assembly, so capital stays flexible while it hunts for the next bolt-on deal. Looking ahead the company says it will keep blending these two engines: advance its specialty chips for AI networking and edge connectivity while using the rising cash flow to pay down VMware debt, boost dividends, and—when the right target appears—add another high-margin software block to the portfolio.
AVGO Forecast: Technical analysis
Broadcom has pushed relentlessly higher since its April 2025 swing-low, carving out a series of higher highs and higher lows while hugging a shallow, rising trend-line (green). Price action sits well above both the 50-day simple moving average
We now apply the trend change analysis checklist we used before, to see whether the trend is still continue on upward trend :
- The price is above 50MA, the timeframe we focus on (confirm uptrend)
- The price has broken above prior highs from March/June (confirmed breakout)
- 50MA has consistently remained above 200MA (confirmed uptrend)
- Slope of 200MA is upward, and not inflection down (confirmed uptrend)
Trend Score: 4/4, showing trend still remains firmly up
Current stage: Uptrend continues, but early signs of momentum weakness via RSI divergence

(Figure 10: Technical analysis on AVGO)
While the trend is up, we’re seeing early signs of weakening momentum. The price keeps rising, but the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is making lower highs. This suggests buyers are getting a bit tired, and momentum may be slowing. AVGO’s performance compared to the S&P 500 is also starting to fade a bit. It peaked in early June and has been drifting slightly lower since, even as the stock price climbed.
We now should expect a upper resistance trendline around $280, If AVGO breaks above the upper resistance trendline, currently around $280, and does so with strong volume and a re-acceleration in RSI, this would confirm a momentum breakout. This is a good long point. However, theres still possbility that If price fails to break above $280, and RSI continues to trend lower, we may be entering a corrective phase despite the longer-term uptrend.
AVGO Stock Forecast: Analysts’ Consensus

The market consensus sets Broadcom at an average price target of $286.36, with a high of $400.00 and a low of $210.00. The current price of $274.38 trades slightly below the average target, leaving moderate near-term upside potential. Analyst sentiment remains overwhelmingly bullish, with 50 of 57 analysts rating it Buy or Strong Buy. Should AVGO break above its $280 resistance, the $286–300 range becomes a reasonable near-term objective.
Conclusion
I recommend a Buy rating on Broadcom for both medium- and long-term investors. Robust revenue growth driven by AI infrastructure and high-margin software, along with strong fundamentals like improving margins and manageable debt, support the bullish case. The stock remains in a confirmed uptrend with a 4/4 technical trend score, and a breakout above the $280 resistance could unlock near-term upside toward the $300–$320 range. While some momentum indicators show short-term fatigue, the long-term outlook remains solid—supported by strong analyst sentiment and structural tailwinds from AI and VMware integration.
